Royalty Free Music For Commercial Use

music video copyright laws?

I am a amateur video editor, and edit my own videos to music such as robzombie, saliva , van halen etc, obviously copyrighted music, I also work for a company as a promotions and advertising specialist, I am mostly a graphic designer, but occasionally work with video and when I create videos for my company, I often use royalty free music, but we are now wanting to use music by such artists as mentioned above, what are the laws on personal use for myself, and commercial use for the company I work for when using copyrighted music for videos I film and edit myself, that are publicly showcased on video sites such youtube, so that I am not infriging any laws.

You cannot use copyrighted work without permission. That permission is available at a fee, usually through ASCAP or BMI. If you’re Youtubing, it’s usually far too expensive to muck around with.

Title 17 of the United States Code contains the federal copyright law. Anyone who says you’re not violating it by using Van Halen, etc. without permission is a complete idiot and shouldn’t be answering in here. I don’t care how much CREDIT you give them, you’re still violating their copyright if you don’t have permission!

If I steal your car and paint “EmCee’s car” on the hood and doors and go driving it around town, can I say “I gave him credit” when the cops bust me? No. Same with copyright infringement. Crediting the owner isn’t enough, getting permission is.
