What does this mean about copyright?
I want to make a song out of a free beat off of 20dollarbeats(DOT)com, I am not sure if I am aloud to post it on youtube with my lyrics or not. This is what it says at the bottom of the screen:
Royalty Free Music: Music which is sold without any ongoing royalty obligations. The copyright is owned in its entirety, by the seller. Royalty Free is not the same as copyright free. In the case of royalty free, the selling entity or entities retain the copyright interests.
It simply means that you can use the music without having to pay the copyright owner royalties – you do NOT own the music, even if you put your own lyrics to it. In other words, you cannot claim the song as completely original – you MUST give credit to the owner of the copyright if you ever publish the song, as well as obtain permission to use the music.
