Sampling Music from the Radio. Music Copyright Laws. Exile “Radio” Hip Hop.?
I’m researching an album called “Radio” by Hip hop producer Exile, in which he samples actual radio and remixes it into an instrumental album. I am wondering about the copyright laws applicable to this project. To my knowledge he hasn’t acknowledged the sample sources. Is public radio free game when it comes to copyright laws or would he have to pay royalties to the original sources of the sounds sampled?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
It all depends on the source and is it copyrighted. Almost a safe bet that it is copyrighted and he needs to have been paying for it. There is some Royalty Free music out there, but I highly doubt everything he got was in that area.

I am not certain if it is the cost you are concern about as you do not want royalty free music but want free download link. I can assure you that you are more likely to find something that fits if you pay then if it is free as there aren't that many free music as compared to paid music which I guess it is logically. Copyright infringement can be a problem. as per the other answer, you can try to use and remix a song but it is illegal even if you credit the person. You can try and if it slips (which happens but for how long is another thing), you are lucky else it may get taken off and you are off to square one finding legal music. Something like this perhaps with a license could help yet is affordable. But somehow I think you already have a song in mind that you can't shake off and want that exact one right? Good luck mate.
