Is there really no catch to free public domain music downloads?
I can use it anywhere, right?
If these are truly public domain, that means they belong to anybody and everybody. The majority of these will be older pieces, but do not assume that after a specific time frame ALL music is public domain. Always check on copyright unless the download is clearly marked public domain with no copyright date anywhere. What you may come up against are some pieces that are versions of songs wherein the person who actually charted the piece (did their own arrangement) owns the copyright to that particular arrangement.
But the real answer to your question is this: if it’s truly public domain and free (not from a peer-to-peer download/sharing site like Limewire), it is anyone’s song to use.
Good Luck!
