Is the Twelve Days of Christmas public domain?
I had an idea for alternate lyrics with the tune of the Twelve Days of Christmas. I had a friend play the song on the piano, and filmed some clips to fit the lyrics. Youtube told me a Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society claimed a musical composition content thing.
I think this is bull since the song was written in the 1500s and no one seems to know the author. Do I have a good case to file a dispute thing?
Here’s a link to the video.
the words to the song are an old irish catechism, as by english law they were not allowed to publicly declare their catholic faith.
so i am sure you may be able to change things around to suit your tastes . go for it
