Are the lyrics for You Are My Sunshine copyrighted?
I want to use the lyrics (I’ll be singing them and I’ll find some free, royalty-free background music online) for a video editing promo contest I’m entering. I’m having a hard time pinning down if it is under copyright though. From what I found, it looks like it is just a recording of it that’s copyrighted, like if a musician sung it with musical accompaniment. Anyone know if I could use the lyrics?
It was copyright in 1940 by Peer International Corporation…and it was renewed. Permission is required.
