America's 16th President, Abraham Lincoln said "I will prepare myself and my opportunity must come". If you truly want a music career, then spend your time right now learning as much as you can about how to become a great musician and songwriter and never give up on that dream.
William James, the father of American Psychology said "If a man will only do each day, as best he can, the work that lies before him, he will awake one day to find himself among the competent ones of his generation.” What does that mean for someone who is only 13 years old and does not even have an instrument to learn on? Today, with the help of the Internet, it’s easier than you might think to succeed in a music career. You can also save your money or ask your parents for an acoustic guitar to learn on like the Mitchell acoustic guitar. – this is an inexpensive guitar but, it’s not a toy, it’s a high quality beautiful instrument that is easy to play and it sounds really good. I know you want an electric guitar but, that is a big expense and your parents are more likely to buy you an electric guitar a few years from now if you first prove to them that you are very serious about your desire to learn music by learning to play well on an acoustic guitar.

So, you already have the ABILITY to succeed. If you spend the time required and PREPARE yourself to succeed, and LEARN everything you can about being a good musician and performer and PRACTICE everyday until you are confident in your abilities and your performance capability, then there is really only one way that you could ever fail as a and that is if you just quit trying to succeed.
Now, I understand that you will from time to time have doubts and it will be natural for you to worry about whether or not you can really succeed in a music career so let me offer this advice that comes from a very wise teacher who said "It makes no sense to worry about the things that you have no control over, because if you have no control over them, it makes no sense to worry about them." … He also said … “It makes no sense to worry about the things that you do have control over, because if you do have control over them, it makes no sense to worry about them."
So, while you are young there will be many things you do not have control over. It makes no sense to worry about them just know in your heart that you have a desire and a dream and that you are determined to succeed at it so, it makes no sense to worry about it because you do have full and complete control over what you do with your life once you are older. So, learn everything you can and be patient and never give up on your dream and eventually you will succeed at it.
