What program can I use to layer my voice with music?
I want to have music softly playing in the background with myself speaking over it (for Halloween). Does anyone know any free programs I could download that would help me do this?

An external microphone is best and monitor with headphones.
You’ll also need to re-set the preference to multi-track recording.
Vesion 1.2 via the file menu, version 1.3 via the edit menu select Preferences / Audio I/O tab and tick “play other tracks while recording new one”
Import the music track then record your voiceover on a new track when you click the record button.
If the playback on Halloween is from the computer then exporting and saving in mp3 format is fine.
If burning to disk to play on an older CD player the best (only) option is to export and save in wav (music CD) format. It will then play on any CD player, new or old
