Dan Bull – WikiLeaks and the Need for Free Speech

Listen: We live in an age of instant information So isn’t it strange that things have been hidden away from us Governments think we need to gain their trust But it’s the other way around, just take a look Nothing tells us more than raw data does So it’s important it’s all available to us Plus put up for debate And looked at by the public’s gaze Because there’s a lot more to be gained from taking off the ball and the chain And the blinkers that have been causing us pain in more than one way Power to the people? We’ve fallen away from it There’s a formal name for this, it’s called a dictatorship And censorship’s not restoring our faith for shit So let’s rip away the red tape and paperclips It’s a shame that it’s come to this for freedom of speech That we need a safe haven for people that leak But you see, we speak what we seek And we just seek what we speak, and that’s the truth that’s keeping us free The truth will set you free The truth will set you free The issue’s prickly when it comes to WikiLeaks Different people see it differently and disagree Does it pillory the bigotry of ministries of tyranny Or is it merely hindering the coalition’s victory? It’s a mystery to me, but look at history You’ll see that liberty is eager to face up to

    I almost cry every time I see the helicopter attack video…. It’s hard to describe, it just hurts me inside to know that those men who did that will never have to face up to what they did and never be brought to any kind of justice for killing those innocent Reuters reporters and civilians.

  5. commanderbige says:

    @mjgamerboy If you mean the helicopter video, then no, there was no reason to kill them. In the full version, they talk about an RPG, but it was clearly a camera(2 of the men were reporters for Reuters), and the rifles, I only saw one when I examined the video, and out of 12-14 men, one rifle does not mean an insurgent group, especially when one man is obviously a reporter.

  9. MarkandJeremy says:

    I’m not sure I agree with this :/

  10. AButtonProductions says:

    @ThaGameZkiller Honestly using someones meaningful message to bash children in the universe who don’t exactly have the most profound views is kind of backwards. Yes I understand it’s aggravating that they speak such vacant meaningless things but that doesn’t mean you need to scream at the top of your lungs every chance you get. Pro-activity brother not hatred.

  11. Sylinic says:

    @MarkandJeremy Agree with what? Exposing corruption?

  12. Kiyastand says:

    so what if wikileaks exposes something that our enemies need to defeat us? then thousands of our men will die. i get the message but there are some things that need to be hidden

  13. BurlingtonNorthernRy says:

    @Kiyastand
    The way I look at is this, There are things that should be kept quiet, like where we’re putting our troops tomorrow in Afghanistan.
    On the flip side, how many people died in the previous year in the war, that’s more embarrassing, then it is sensitive information.

    Blindly following Bush, with little questioning caused us to end up in that bloodbath that was Iraq…

  14. Kiyastand says:

    @BurlingtonNorthernRy i agree with you

  15. aha2095 says:

    @ThaGameZkiller You sir are homophobic; how can there be true freedom when there are those who would oppress one and another. You’re on the same level as a racist or a dictator, oppression is not right we should all be free to do as we wish without someone to oppress us. You seem to miss the point of this video and for that I feel sorry for you.

  16. jjoossee1994 says:

    es bueno el vĂdeo pero solo habla de Estados Unidos como siempre en todos lados : (
    a veces pienso que se olvidan del resto del mundo

  17. Trygve12345678987654 says:

    @aha2095 You have gotten freedom all wrong. ThaGameZkiller was just using his freedom to disagree with someone, and if we can’t disagree with anyone, what kind of freedom would it be?

  18. akkronym48 says:

    @ThaGameZkiller
    I find it kind of ironic that you hail the idea that the song advocates by personally attacking Justin Bieber. Not a fan of his myself, and I agree this song should have more views, but he’s advocating free speech in the name of truth and freedom – not hate and homophobia.
